THE LORD'S CHOSEN DEVOTIONAL GUIDE 

DATE: Tuesday, April 20th, 2021.

TEXT: Matthew 5: 43-48

THEME: YOU HAVE TO DO MORE THAN OTHERS.
 
Memory verse: “For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5: 20).

As Christians we have been called to a higher standard than what obtains in the world around us. What might be permissible for others may not be acceptable for us as children of God. To whom much is given much is expected. We have been given so much and therefore much is also expected from us. 
The Spirit of the Living God dwells in us and we must do our best not to grieve it. 
We have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ and are expected to be holy just like our Heavenly Father. 
We have been charged to follow the footsteps of Christ and most times the path we are to follow will not align with the world.

While others might engage in unrighteousness that has now been branded 'normal' by society such as bribery and corruption, immorality, smoking, drinking, lying, cheating, unforgiveness and malice etc, we have been called apart to live holy lives. 
Many people will even call you  stupid or foolish but we must remember that the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing while at the same time the foolishness of God is wiser than men (1Corinthians 1:18, 25, & 2:14).
 So, do not be discouraged. 

Do not be deceived by the end-time doctrine that is prevalent in many churches that preach 'grace' which instead of transforming, has become a licence for sinful living. 
In their view the grace of God will mercifully cover their sins and has nullified the law. 
They go on sinning while claiming grace. This is a dangerous teaching. The truth is that with the grace of God we can now overcome sin that we were not able to do in the flesh before grace was made available by the shedding of Christ blood on Calvary. Now there is no excuse for ungodliness again since we have been given the grace to overcome. 
True grace empowers. It is not a licence for sin. Jesus knowing that we now had the empowerment to live above sin said in our memory verse of today that our righteousness must exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees if we want to enter Heaven. 
You have been called apart and we must do much more than others because we have received power to overcome the world. 


Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:

1. O God, I ask for the grace that empowers to enable me overcome trials and temptations, in Jesus name.

2. O God, I pray that God will make me a light in the darkness and that my light will never dim, in Jesus name.

3. Lord, release upon our G. O and Mommy in the Lord the grace to remain steadfast even in the midst of persecutions, in Jesus name.
