THE LORD'S CHOSEN DEVOTIONAL GUIDE - APRIL 19TH
THE LORD'S CHOSEN DEVOTIONAL GUIDE
DATE: Monday, April 19th, 2021.
Text: Romans 2: 21-29
THEME: BEWARE OF HYPOCRISY
Memory verse: “Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:5)
There are many Christians that practice a 'do as I say and not as I do,' type of Christianity. They pretend to be holier than thou but, they are no better than the people they are preaching against. In fact, sometimes they are even worse. They seem to think that they are immune to God's judgment. Our passage today implores us to do what we preach. We need to be the mirror image of Christ here on earth. It is wrong for us to engage in the same behaviour that we are condemning. When we do so, we not only make mockery of the gospel, but also stand condemned with the same judgment we use to judge others. It also makes the gospel to be blasphemed among unbelievers. They use the excuse that because some Christians are hypocrites to justify the reason why they refuse to be born again. They forget that Christianity is an individual race and God will never entertain an excuse that another person's actions was a reason for you not to follow Him. However, your actions have become a stumbling block to another person, and you will also be held responsible for this.
Hypocrisy is not only a great sin against God but also against yourself. This is because it is a great form of self-deception which will gradually lead to destruction. Do you not know that any judgment that you pronounce on others, will also be placed on you? Or do you think that you can escape same? The fact is that your own judgment will be even more severe because you know better. You can deceive everybody including yourself, but you cannot deceive God nor will you escape His judgment. It would be a great shame if after you spent your whole life pretending to be holy and pure, with everybody around you feeling that you were a spiritual person on the right track, you end up among those that would be told to depart because God did not recognise them. It is time to take stock and ensure that what you are in private holds up to what people think you are in public. Remember that there is nothing hidden from God.
Worship/praise God and then take the following prayer points:
1. O God, purify and sanctify my heart, in Jesus name.
2. Lord, I search my heart and confess any sin of hypocrisy in my life, in Jesus name.
3. O God, revive the Christendom and flush out/expose all those that cause your name to be blasphemed and have become a stumbling block to others, in Jesus name.
4. Lord, I pray for the sustenance of your spirit in the life of our G. O and Mommy in the Lord, in Jesus name.
